(a) It is desired to use the results of Example 12.1-3 to measure the thermal diffusivity a = k/pCp of a solid material. This may be done by measuring the amplitudes A1 and A2 at two points at distances y1 and y2 from the periodically heated surface. Show that the thermal diffusivity may then be estimated from the formula
(b) Calculate the thermal diffusivity a when the sinusoidal surface heat flux has a frequency 0.0030 cycles/s, if y2 ? y1 = 6.19 cm and the amplitude ratio A1/A2 is6.05.
